1500 overview

The Ram 1500 is the brand's light-duty full-size pickup, offered in Quad Cab and Crew Cab bodies with two bed lengths and a long list of trims. Engines run from a mild-hybrid V6 through the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 and two Hurricane twin-turbo sixes, with 6.4-liter and supercharged V8 power on the Rumble Bee and TRX SRT performance trucks. It suits buyers who want everything from a basic job-site truck to a luxury cruiser or a high-speed off-road machine.

The Midwest take

The Ram 1500 is the Midwest default: a half-ton truck with 4x4 on most trims, a Snow drive mode, and tow ratings of up to 11,530 pounds with the standard-output Hurricane six or 11,370 with the 5.7-liter HEMI eTorque. The payload on those engines is lower than the headline, 1,880 and 1,680 pounds, so the heavy end of the tow range is for light trailers or bare-bones configurations. It is the right size for feed, firewood or a snowblower in the bed. Ask your dealer about block heater and remote start availability on specific trims. It is built in Sterling Heights, Michigan, and Stellantis also lists a Saltillo, Mexico line.

Engines for every budget

The 1500 can be ordered with a V6, two versions of the 5.7-liter HEMI, two outputs of the 3.0-liter Hurricane six, a 6.4-liter V8 and a supercharged V8. Most buyers will choose between the V6, the HEMI eTorque and the standard-output Hurricane. All of them use an eight-speed automatic.

Towing numbers that depend on the engine

Ram's maximum rating is 11,530 pounds with the standard-output Hurricane six. The 5.7-liter HEMI eTorque follows at 11,370 pounds, while the high-output Hurricane drops to 9,480. Payload runs the opposite way, topping out at 2,340 pounds with the V6, so match the engine to the job rather than the headline number.

03

Muscle trucks join the lineup

The Rumble Bee family adds a short, wide Quad Cab with a 5-foot 7-inch bed and three HEMI V8 choices. The base truck uses the 5.7-liter and starts at $61,990 before destination, the 392 uses a 6.4-liter making 470 hp, and the SRT version makes 777 hp. The 392 and SRT are due in the first half of 2027.

Warlock, Rebel, RHO and TRX SRT form a ladder of off-road trims. The Warlock starts at $53,415, while the TRX SRT tops the range at $99,995. Both RHO and TRX SRT offer hands-free driving assist, which Ram says no other gas off-road pickup has.

1500 questions, answered

Which Ram 1500 engine is best for towing a camper in the Midwest?

For most buyers, the 420-hp 3.0-liter Hurricane (up to 11,530 lbs towing, 1,880 lbs payload) or the 5.7-liter HEMI eTorque (up to 11,370 lbs, 1,680 lbs payload). The high-output Hurricane and the 6.4 HEMI have lower tow ratings. Choose on the payload sticker, not the headline tow number.

Is the Ram 1500 4x4 worth it in the Midwest?

For most buyers, yes. The 4x4 matters for unplowed driveways, boat ramps, farm lanes and trailer pulling on wet or icy ground. Rear-drive trucks are cheaper and fine for commuting in cities with good plowing. If you tow or live on gravel, 4x4 pays for itself the first January.

How much can the 2027 Ram 1500 tow?

The maximum is 11,530 pounds with the standard-output 3.0-liter Hurricane six-cylinder and the 3.92 axle. The 5.7-liter HEMI eTorque is rated up to 11,370 pounds and the 3.6-liter V6 up to 8,100 pounds. Actual capacity depends on cab, bed, axle and options, so check the trailer towing chart for the exact truck.

What is the payload of the Ram 1500?

Maximum payload is 2,340 pounds, available with the 3.6-liter V6 eTorque. The standard-output Hurricane reaches 1,880 pounds and the 5.7-liter HEMI eTorque 1,680 pounds. The performance engines carry less, between about 1,140 and 1,530 pounds.

How much does the 2027 Ram 1500 cost?

ramtrucks.com lists the 2027 Ram 1500 from $42,575 for the Tradesman Quad Cab 4x2, before destination (Ram has quoted $2,795). The Express starts at $44,700, Big Horn $47,830, Warlock $53,415, Laramie $61,880, Rumble Bee $61,990, Rebel $65,845, RHO $74,995, Limited $76,805, Longhorn $77,300, Tungsten $89,200 and TRX SRT $99,995. Prices rise with Crew Cab, 4x4 and options.

What engines does the 2027 Ram 1500 offer?

There are seven: the 305-hp 3.6-liter V6 eTorque, the 395-hp 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with or without eTorque, the 420-hp and 540-hp 3.0-liter Hurricane sixes, the 470-hp 6.4-liter HEMI and the 777-hp supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI. All pair with an eight-speed automatic. The 6.4-liter (Rumble Bee 392) and the Rumble Bee SRT arrive in the first half of 2027.

Is the Ram 1500 TRX SRT still available?

Yes. It returns for 2027 as the Ram 1500 TRX SRT with 777 horsepower and 680 lb-ft of torque. It starts at $99,995 before destination, and Ram quotes 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds.

Is there an electric or Ramcharger version of the 2027 Ram 1500?

Not in the lineup Ram lists for 2027. The 2027 Ram 1500 press kit covers gas V6, V8 and Hurricane powertrains only, and no 2027 REV specs or pricing are published.
