Charger overview

The eighth-generation Dodge Charger is a two-door or four-door muscle car sold in two forms. The R/T and Scat Pack, plus their Plus versions, use a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six called SIXPACK, while the Daytona Scat Pack Plus is a battery-electric car rated at up to 670 horsepower. All-wheel drive is standard on every trim, and a hidden hatch gives the car a usable cargo area.

The Midwest take

The Charger is the Midwest muscle car with an asterisk that works in your favor: every 2027 Charger has all-wheel drive, including the gas SIXPACK models (R/T at 420 hp, Scat Pack at 550 hp), which makes it far more livable in November than the rear-drive Chargers of old. The electric Daytona is rated up to 267 miles and has a native NACS port, but range falls in deep cold like any EV. It is still a low, wide performance car with 5.5 inches of ground clearance, so winter tires are not optional and a few inches of unplowed snow can still stop you. It is a sound pick for Detroit-area enthusiasts who show up at the Woodward Dream Cruise in August and want a car they can still drive in January. It is built in Windsor, Ontario.

Gas or electric, same body

The Charger comes with the SIXPACK twin-turbo inline-six in the R/T, Scat Pack and their Plus versions, or as the all-electric Daytona Scat Pack Plus. All five trims share the same body, offered as a two-door or a four-door.

A more powerful base engine

The R/T's 420-horsepower six replaces the old 5.7-liter HEMI and adds 50 horsepower. Dodge says it is the most standard horsepower of any muscle car. The Scat Pack uses a high-output version with 550 horsepower and up to 30 psi of boost.

Daytona for electric performance

The Daytona Scat Pack Plus is rated at 630 horsepower, rising to 670 with the PowerShot boost, and reaches 60 mph in 3.3 seconds. Dodge's spec sheet for the Daytona Scat Pack lists a 20 to 80 percent charge in about 27 minutes on a 350 kW fast charger.

Useful hatch space

A hidden hatch opens to roughly 22 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats up and up to 38 cubic feet with them folded. That is a lot of room for a car this sporty, and the four-door has a little more than the two-door.

All-wheel drive on every trim

Every Charger has all-wheel drive. The SIXPACK models add an on-demand rear-drive mode at the push of a button, and Wet/Snow is a standard drive mode on the R/T, so the car is less of a fair-weather proposition than older muscle cars.

Customization from the factory

The 2027 list adds Petrol Blue seats, new stripe kits and a Satin Black hood. Packages include Blacktop and Carbon & Suede, and the Daytona can add a Track Package with 16-inch Brembo rotors and adaptive damping.

Charger questions, answered

Can a Dodge Charger be driven in Midwest winters?

Yes. All-wheel drive is standard on every 2027 Charger, gas or electric. Treat it like any performance car: fit winter tires, park the summer tires for the season, and keep the underbody washed. With 5.5 inches of clearance it is a plowed-road car, not a drift-buster.

Where is the Dodge Charger built?

At Stellantis's Windsor Assembly Plant in Windsor, Ontario, which Stellantis lists as producing the Charger Daytona and Charger SIXPACK. Windsor is across the Detroit River from Michigan, but the car is Canadian-built.

Is the Dodge Charger Sixpack gas or electric?

Gas. SIXPACK is the name of the 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six that powers the Charger R/T (420 hp) and Scat Pack (550 hp), including their Plus versions. The electric car is the Charger Daytona Scat Pack Plus, which has its own powertrain and price.

How much horsepower does the 2027 Dodge Charger have?

The R/T and R/T Plus make 420 horsepower, the Scat Pack and Scat Pack Plus 550, and the Daytona Scat Pack Plus 670 horsepower with PowerShot (630 without).

Does the 2027 Dodge Charger come as a four-door?

Yes. Every trim is offered as a two-door or a four-door. The four-door costs $2,000 more on the SIXPACK models and $500 more on the Daytona.

How much does the 2027 Dodge Charger cost?

The two-door R/T starts at $49,995 and the four-door at $51,995. The Scat Pack starts at $55,845, the Scat Pack Plus at $60,840 and the Daytona Scat Pack Plus at $77,490, all two-door prices before destination.

How far can the Dodge Charger Daytona go on a charge?

Dodge quotes up to 267 miles of EPA range from the 100.5 kWh battery. Fueleconomy.gov lists 231 to 267 miles depending on the tire package, with the longest range rated at 86 MPGe combined. A 350 kW fast charger can take it from 20 to 80 percent in about 27 minutes, per the spec sheet for the Daytona Scat Pack.

Can the Dodge Charger Daytona use Tesla Superchargers?

Yes, from the 2027 model year. The Daytona has a native NACS charge port, so it can plug into Tesla Supercharger stations without an adapter.
