ProMaster overview

The Ram ProMaster is a Class 2 full-size commercial van with front-wheel drive, a low load floor and a wide choice of lengths and roof heights. A 276-horsepower V6 is the standard engine, and the ProMaster EV adds an all-electric option for delivery fleets. It is built for delivery, trades and vocational upfits, and also comes as a window van and a cutaway chassis.

The Midwest take

The ProMaster is the van for trades that start in a cold driveway at 6 a.m.: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, delivery. It has a 276-hp 3.6-liter V6 and front-wheel drive, with up to 4,750 pounds of payload and 524 cubic feet of cargo space in the largest cargo van. Front-wheel drive puts the engine weight over the drive wheels, which helps, though a loaded van on an unplowed route still wants winter tires. A heated steering wheel and heated windshield are available, a thoughtful touch for a driver who climbs in and out forty times a day. The tall roof is also a sail in prairie crosswinds. Ram's spec sheet lists towing up to 7,130 pounds. It is built at Saltillo Van Assembly in Mexico, and a 164-mile EV version exists for fleets.

Sixteen ways to configure the body

Ram offers the ProMaster in 118-, 136- and 159-inch wheelbases, with low, high or super high roofs, and a longer extended-frame version at the top end. You can also get a window van, or a cutaway chassis for an upfitter. The tallest configuration provides up to 524 cubic feet of cargo space.

Front-wheel drive with a low floor

Putting the drive wheels at the front keeps the load floor low and flat, which makes stepping in and loading easier for drivers who do it dozens of times a day. Ram says the ProMaster has a best-in-class turning radius and cargo height.

A V6 and an electric option

The gas ProMaster uses a 3.6-liter V6 with 276 horsepower and a nine-speed automatic. The ProMaster EV pairs a 110 kWh battery with 268 horsepower and 302 lb-ft of torque, and ramtrucks.com quotes up to 164 miles of range for the cargo van.

Technology borrowed from the passenger line

A 7-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen is standard and SLT+ steps up to a 10.1-inch Uconnect 5 NAV screen with split-screen use. Available extras include a surround-view camera, wireless phone charging, Alexa and TomTom navigation, and a heated steering wheel and windshield. A telematics module is standard.

Towing and payload for a van

With the V6, ProMaster is rated to tow up to 7,130 pounds and carry up to 4,750 pounds, depending on the body. Payload is the key spec for most van buyers, so compare it carefully by body style and roof height.

ProMaster questions, answered

Is the Ram ProMaster good in Midwest winters?

It is a front-wheel-drive van, and Ram promotes front-drive traction. With a load over the drive wheels and winter tires it manages most plowed roads. It is not 4x4, so for rural job sites with unplowed access, a pickup or chassis cab may be the better tool.

What can a Ram ProMaster haul and tow?

Ram lists up to 4,750 pounds of payload and 524 cubic feet of cargo space on the biggest cargo van, and the spec sheet lists towing of up to 7,130 pounds on the 1500 118-inch van. Those maximums apply to different body, roof and wheelbase combinations, so check the exact configuration.

How much can the Ram ProMaster tow?

The 2026 ProMaster is rated to tow up to 7,130 pounds, a figure for the 1500 cargo van on the 118-inch wheelbase with the V6. Other cargo vans are rated lower, down to about 6,480 pounds on the 2500 with the 159-inch wheelbase and high roof.

What is the payload of the Ram ProMaster?

The highest payload in the 2026 towing charts is 4,750 pounds for the 3500 cargo van on the 136-inch wheelbase with the low roof. The ProMaster EV cargo van carries up to 3,170 pounds.

Does Ram still make the ProMaster EV?

Yes, on the 2026 model-year spec sheet and the ramtrucks.com electric page. It uses a 110 kWh battery and a 268-horsepower motor, with up to 164 miles of range quoted for the cargo van. Ram lists 3500 cargo vans on the 159-inch wheelbase, and the spec sheet also lists a step van.

Is the Ram ProMaster front-wheel drive?

Yes. The ProMaster and the smaller ProMaster City are the two Class 2 vans Ram sells with front-wheel drive, which helps keep the load floor low.

How much cargo space does a Ram ProMaster have?

The largest configuration, the 3500 extended-length van with the super high roof, holds up to 524 cubic feet. The standard van is smaller; cargo volume depends on the wheelbase and roof height you choose.

What is the difference between the ProMaster and the ProMaster City?

The ProMaster is a full-size Class 2 van with a V6 and up to 524 cubic feet of space. The 2027 ProMaster City is a smaller, midsize van with a 1.6-liter turbo four, a cargo area of more than 167 cubic feet and a starting price of $37,400 before destination.
